No matter one’s opinion about Jay Cutler’s NFC Championship Game-ending knee injury, it’s understandable the Bears’ quarterback took serious girlfriend Kristin Cavallari’s advice to “get the heck out of town” after the Bears’ painful loss to the Packers.
According to someone who should know, the couple quickly and quietly high-tailed it to Cavallari’s Los Angeles area home — just as the Chicago headlines were swirling about Cutler’s role in the Bears’ defeat Sunday.
It didn’t take much convincing for the press-shy Cutler to escape Chicago and the lousy weather in order to seek some sunshine and a break from the blame game — until the QB and his galpal were spied shopping on an L.A. street by the ever-present cameras of the paparazzi.
† According to a close Cutler chum, he’s very bitter and hurt by the postgame reaction of many — “but Jay’s a pro. He can take it. He’ll get himself healthy and be back better than ever.”
† Apparently the slams surprising Cutler most were those coming from other NFL players, who, my source said, “Jay thinks should have understood [about injuries], better than anyone.”
† I’ve also learned that Cavallari has been playing quite the protective “mother hen” for Cutler — advising him to get a second opinion on his knee from an L.A. doctor and avoid reading any Super Bowl-related stories. “It’s like stars learning not to read what the tabloids write about them,” said a Hollywood associate of Cavallari.
BEING RELEASED: Not only has Demi Lovato’s new single “Shut Up and Love Me” leaked out on the Internet, but the Disney star reportedly is also about to be released herself — from rehab — this coming weekend or early next week.
Lovato has been undergoing extensive treatment for what her team has termed “long-standing emotional and physical issues” at the Timberline Knolls clinic in suburban Lemont — a facility specializing in eating disorders and drug and alcohol addiction among girls and young women.
† The young actress and singer is expected to travel to California to spend some time in a halfway “sober house” facility — similar to the well-monitored residences that Lindsay Lohan occupied after her release from Betty Ford earlier this year.
TAKE A BOW: Kudos to Tony Award-winning actor, part-time Chicagoan and Goodman Theatre board member Brian Dennehy — just inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame in New York by the American Theatre Critics Association. Dennehy joins the 2011 inductees, including Linda Lavin and Fritz Weaver.
† Knowing social whirlwind Hazel Barr’s circle of witty pals, the zingers should be priceless when the Hinsdale dynamo and self-described “Duchess of Du-Pah-Jay” is gently roasted April 27 at the annual Apparel Industry Board’s fund-raiser benefitting the fashion scholarship fund established by music man Stanley Paul in memory of his late sister Raelene Mittelman.
ERNIE’S EVENT: That 80th birthday celebration for Ernie Banks on Saturday at Harry Caray’s on Kinzie will be quite the bash — including Gov. Quinn personally declaring it “Ernie Banks Day” and toasts to “Mr. Cub” from the team’s owners Laura and Todd Ricketts and Dutchie Caray, plus funnyman Jeff Garlin leading the crowd in “Happy Birthday,” before they slice-up a giant, Cubs-themed Eli’s cheesecake.
QUITE THE TRIP: Popular Chicago arts maven, writer and commentator Victoria Lautman is just back from an amazing trip to Jaipur, India, which included a glittering gala on the grounds of the 18th century Rambagh Palace Hotel, featuring the Jaipur royal family, Bollywood film stars, numerous fashionistas, major Indian CEOs and Art Institute of Chicago director James Cuno. It was all to raise awareness of the Jaipur exhibit coming to the Art Institute in 2013.
SCENE SET: Things were hopping as the cast of “Shameless” — William H. Macy, Justin Chatwin, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan, Jeremy Allen White and Laura Slade Wiggins — enjoyed a big feast at Quartino on State. … “The Chicago Code” star and Windy City native Jennifer Beals was spied dining at R.J. Grunts. … It was hard to miss Bulls legend Bob Love — wearing his leather championship jacket as he graciously greeted hoops fans while dining Wednesday night at Pizano’s in Glenview.
