BEARS’ SATURDAY SELECTIONS

Ka’Deem Carey

Round: 4

Overall pick: 117

Position: RB

Hometown: Tucson, Arizona

College: Arizona

Ht: 5-9 Wt: 207

Comment: Off-the-field concerns and a 4.47-second 40-yard dash caused his drop, but Carey’s on-field performance was unimpeachable. He had 3,814 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns the last two years combined before foregoing his senior season. Carey averaged 154.31 career all-purpose yards, 24th-most in NCAA history.

Brock Vereen

Round: 4

Overall pick: 131

Position: FS/SS

Hometown: Valencia, California

College: Minnesota

Ht: 6-0 Wt: 199

Comment: Vereen plays free and strong safety, earning attention for the former last year. He topped all DBs in the NFL Scouting Combine’s bench press, and was second among safeties in the 40. A special teams weapon, he played on punt, punt return and kick return teams.

david fales

Round: 6

Overall pick: 183

Position: QB

Hometown: Salinas, California

College: San Jose State

Ht: 6-1 Wt: 228

Comment: Fales totaled 8,382 passing yards, 66 touchdowns and 22 interceptions in two years starting at SJSU. He started his career at Nevada, but transferred after watching Colin Kaepernick turn the pistol into a rushing offense. Fales played at Monterrey Peninsula College for two seasons. Arm-strength questions pushed him down the draft.

Pat O’Donnell

Round: 6

Overall pick: 191

Position: Punter

Hometown: Miami

College: Miami

Ht: 6-4 Wt: 220

Comment: Set a school record by averaging 47.1 yards per punt last season. A real football player who ran a 4.53 40-yard dash and had 23 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press at the combine and had three tackles and a forced fumble last season. Also kicks off and holds for FGs and PATs.

Charles Leno Jr.

Round: 7

Overall pick: 246

Position: Offensive tackle

Hometown: Oakland, California

College: Boise State

Ht: 6-4 Wt: 303

Comment: Long-armed, athletic project for Aaron Kromer projected as a versatile backup — at tackle, guard or center — but also has the ability to be more than that in the right situation. Started at RT as a sophomore and LT as a junior and senior. Blocked a FG last season.
