EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — We Chicagoans can be pretty snarky when it comes to our hometown quarterback, especially when Jay Cutler’s name is dropped on Super Bowl Sunday, a game he’s never participated in.
But ... OH, MY GOD, LOOK. CUTE KITTENS!
Meet Jay Catler, the Bears quarterback’s feline doppelganger, who appeared in the Kitten Bowl on Sunday. The Hallmark Channel’s not-so-veiled rip-off of Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl featured kittens doing all sorts of cute things on a miniature football field.
According to his football card, the black-and-white Catler, who was adopted Oct. 31, enjoys the film “August: Osage Kitty” and plays the position of “Stalk End.” His demeanor is described as “Sly.”
The show guaranteed homes for the kittens, in association with North Shore Animal League America. It was hosted by animal activist Beth Stern — that’s Howard’s wife — and emceed by John Sterling, the voice of the Yankees.
Other “players” included Tomcat Brady, Ferrell Owens and Mr. Whiskers.
The game took a tragic turn when Catler injured his paw and was replaced by Josh Meowin’, creating the first-ever kitty quarterback controversy.
OK, we made that part up. Guess the snark’s hard to turn off completely.
