1. Hester’s fumble
Devin Hester’s solid season suffered a big blemish Sunday when he fumbled on his second kickoff return. He was stripped by the Eagles’ Bradley Fletcher, with Cary Williams recovering at the Bears’ 39. The Eagles scored five plays later. Hester last lost a fumble on Oct. 25, 2009, at Cincinnati.
2. A little gift
The Bears got some help from the officials before scoring their first points on a 50-yard field goal by Robbie Gould in the final seconds of the first half. Jay Cutler’s scramble on third-and-10 to the Eagles’ 32 appeared to be short on replays. With the Bears out of timeouts, Cutler spiked the ball to stop the clock on first-and-10 to set up the field goal.
3. Later, folks
The Eagles-Dallas Cowboys matchup was flexed into NBC’s prime-time slot next Sunday. The Bears’ game against the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field, which will decide the NFC North, was moved back to 3:25 p.m. If the Bears had beaten the Eagles, the game would have remained at noon.
