1) It’s early, but this is the first time the Bears have faced adversity under Marc Trestman. How do you think they’ll react?
It’s not hard to figure out. Their tackling in the secondary was horrible. It was pitiful. Listen, you can play any coverage . . . cover-2, cover-3, cover-1, but you gotta cover people and you gotta tackle. Their problem was tackling people. And the ball was flying on [Jay] Cutler. He’s gotta understand, you can’t turn it over. Do I think they’ll regroup? Yeah, they have to regroup. You know, the whole thing about football is when things are going good, it’s easy. But when you have a little adversity, how do you operate then?
2) Last week, Cutler did exactly what you said he can’t do: turn the ball over. What happened?
I watched him, and I thought the ball was sailing on him. Here’s the thing: That was the first game they had to play in catch-up mode. When they started playing catch-up, that makes you throw the ball a little differently than you might want to.
3) Lions vice chairman Bill Ford called the Bears a ‘‘bunch of thugs.’’ Your thoughts?
Just because you have your name on a car doesn’t make you smart. If any team plays like thugs, it’s the Detroit Lions.
4) Been a lot of talk about fighting in hockey. Do you believe it’s part of the game?
No. I think it should be taken out of the game. These guys are too talented, and overall, I think they probably respect each other too much to do what they do. To me, that becomes very bothersome.
