Tank is going to the Super Bowl
Bears fans, rest easy: Your team won’t have to play the Super Bowl without Terry “Tank” Johnson.
A Cook County judge agreed this morning to let the Bears’ defensive lineman travel to Miami to train for and play in the Feb. 4 championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Johnson ended up in Judge John J. Moran’s Skokie courtroom after being accused of violating the terms of his probation in a gun case. Just before Christmas, Moran had ordered Johnson confined to his Gurnee residence 24 hours a day, allowed to leave only for work — that is, practice and games.
He had to come back before Moran today for permission to leave the state for the Super Bowl.
Moran agreed, but he warned Johnson’s lawyer: “I assume he knows there won't be any violations of the law, or dire consequences will result.”
The Cook County Adult Probation Department didn’t oppose allowing Johnson to go to Miami, citing his “complete compliance” with his home confinement.
“It’s a great feeling,” Johnson said after the ruling.
