Cutler Watch: QB shines in goal-line situations

Updated: August 6, 2013 6:42PM

Because of rain in Bourbonnais, the Bears moved practice up four hours from the originally scheduled time of 3:15 p.m. Monday. But the sloppy conditions didn’t hinder the offense and quarterback Jay Cutler too much, especially when it came to team drills in goal-line situations.

Cutler connected with receiver Brandon Marshall (back-shoulder catch) and tight end Fendi Onobun (slant over the middle) for short touchdowns. Onobun dunked the ball over the goalpost after his touchdown catch.

The Bears continue to experiment with different personnel groupings with Cutler. Onobun is 6-6, 260 pounds, giving Cutler another big target in the red zone.

“We’ll be a team that will mix personnel groupings throughout a game,” coach Marc Trestman said. “We’re trying to work with different players at different positions. Just as you see it [at practice] is how we’d like to do it. Just rotate people around and create value with every player we have on the roster on the offensive side.’’
