Linebacker Dom DeCicco, a solid contributor on special teams, was released by the Bears on Monday with the team opting to take a longer look at four tryout players who caught their attention at rookie minicamp.

The Bears signed wide receiver Demetrius Fields and defensive tackles Corvey Irvin and Christian Tupou and agreed to terms on a contract with cornerback Maurice Jones. All four had tryouts this past weekend at the Bears’ rookie minicamp.

As a result, DeCicco and cornerback LeQuan Lewis were released. Lewis was signed in February after appearing in three games with the Dallas Cowboys and five with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.

DeCicco was re-signed in December after Brian Urlacher was injured. He had been waived with an injury settlement last preseason after requiring surgery for a sports hernia. In 2011, DeCicco, an undrafted player from Pittsburgh, was second on the Bears with 17 special-teams tackles.

Fields, Irvin, Tupou and Jones, meanwhile, will get more opportunities to prove themselves during the Bears’ organized team activities, which started Monday.

Irvin, a Georgia product, is the most experienced, bouncing from team to team after being selected in the third round in 2009 by the Carolina Panthers. He appeared in 18 games over three seasons with the Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fields, a rookie, had 114 catches for 1,203 yards and seven touchdowns in 52 games over four seasons with Northwestern.

Tupou went undrafted player in 2012 out of USC. Jones is a rookie from Temple.
