Grading the Bears

November 9, 2009
Quarterback

B It wasn't Jay Cutler's fault. He was 29-for-47 for 369 yards, three TDs and an INT. Penalties, bad play calls and sacks hampered most of the fruitless drives.

Running backs

B Matt Forte gained 107 yards on 11 touches -- 33 rushing on five carries, 74 receiving on six catches. Adrian Peterson did the usual bang-up job in relief.

Receivers

B Devin Hester (right) is no Larry Fitzgerald, but he had another solid game (six catches, 94 yards). Greg Olsen had five catches, 71 yards and three touchdowns.

Offensive line

C- Jay Cutler was sacked four times and ''hurried'' eight times. The holding penalty on Olin Kreutz was bogus, but the false starts were not.

Defensive line

F Tommie Harris set the tone for the day by getting kicked out on the third play. Alex Brown had two sacks and two forced fumbles, but so what?

Linebackers

F Hunter Hillenmeyer had 11 tackles, but few made a difference. If only the Bears would have had Brian Urlacher -- it might have been 37-21.

Secondary

F Charles Tillman was mired in a little difficulty against Larry Fitzgerald. Zack Bowman had a pick, but it was against Matt Leinart.

Special teams

D After Robbie Gould's PAT, it was all downhill. Gould had a FG blocked and had to trip up Antrel Rolle to avoid a disaster on the return.

Coaching

F Ken Whisenhunt made the bad move of the day with Leinart, but Smith took game honors with his team's overall unpreparedness.
