Gimpy Hester still expects to play Sunday vs. Cardinals
Wide receiver Devin Hester limped around the practice field Wednesday at Halas Hall, but he vowed to be on the field Sunday, when the Bears host the Arizona Cardinals.
Hester suffered a sprained ankle near the end of the victory over the Cleveland Browns, and he could be back on the field today.
''I'm all right,'' Hester said. ''I'm going to play.''
Whether Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin will play remains to be seen. He missed practice Wednesday with a sprained right ankle that has been hobbling him for nearly a month. He re-aggravated the injury Sunday in the loss to the Carolina Panthers.
The Denver Broncos used quarterback Jay Cutler on the move a lot, and he seems more than enthusiastic about keeping the pass rush a little off-balance with rolling pockets and bootlegs.
''Yeah, that's good,'' said Cutler, who perked up with the question. ''I think it's in the back of Ron's [offensive coordinator Ron Turner's] mind, to move the pocket around, to get some nakeds and some quick stuff, so I'm not sitting there at five or eight yards, and the defense knows exactly where to tackle me. Yeah, I think it's a great idea.''
Defensive tackle Tommie Harris practiced for the second consecutive Wednesday, although he was limited. The Bears also listed linebacker Lance Briggs (shoulder), defensive linemen Adewale Ogunleye (ankle) and Matt Toeaina (calf), tight end Greg Olsen (ankle) and safety Craig Steltz (biceps) as limited.
Boldin and defensive tackle Darnell Dockett (ankle) were held out by the Cardinals.
The NFL fined Browns linebacker Kamerion Wimbley $7,500 for his roughing-the-passer penalty. The hit had Cutler swallowing blood for two quarters because of a cut on his tongue.
''It doesn't help me out any,'' Cutler said. ''He might lose a little bit of money, but that's how it goes.''
• General manager Jerry Angelo announced on the Bears' Web site that the team has not put linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa on injured reserve to clear a roster spot, and it will not do so unless there is a player the team wants active on game days. The Bears don't have a practice-squad player or see any free agents who would fill that role. Tinoisamoa suffered a season-ending knee injury Oct.18 at Atlanta.
• Turner said the Wildcat, which he used once against the Browns, isn't something the Bears spend much time on in practice.
''We probably did two snaps of it in practice,'' he said. ''Maybe a couple more than that. That's something we have in, but like I've said before, it's hard for me to take No. 6 [Cutler] and take the ball out of his hands and put him out lined up as a wide receiver. I like to keep the ball in his hands.''
