Jay Cutler admits he shouldn’t have bumped left tackle J’Marcus Webb on the sideline Thursday night, but makes no apologies for dressing down his Bears teammate for poor play.

Addressing the controversy Tuesday for the first time on his ESPN-1000 radio show, Cutler said: “I probably shouldn’t have bumped him, I’ll go with that. As far as me yelling at him and trying to get him going in the game, I don’t regret that. I shouldn’t have bumped him, I’ll stick to that.’’

Cutler admitted talking with the “powers that be’’ at Halas Hall, as well as Webb and each member of the offensive line. Cutler declined to provide details of those talks. And he didn’t shed much light on the reasons behind his incident with Webb.

“I can’t put a definite reason why it happened. It happened,’’ Cutler said. “It’s an emotional game. I put a lot into playing quarterback and I take it seriously. It’s just one of those things that happened during a game, and since then we’ve talked about it and it’s really behind us.

“I’ve talked about it with the powers that be down there, I talked about it with the offensive line, each of them individually, and it is what it is. It’s been blown up probably a little bit bigger than any of us expected, but at the same time that’s what you have to expect out of the media.’’

Webb refused to speak to reporters Monday, but Cutler said he would have been thrilled if his tackle would have bumped him back. Better yet, shoved him back.

“Sure, anything to let me know that, ‘Hey, I’m pissed off that I got beat, I’m going to try and rectify it, I’m going to try and get us back into this ballgame,’ ’’Cutler said.

Then in Cutler fashion, he took a dig at his critics.

“But you can’t push or nudge, anything like that, we just established that,’’ he said sarcastically.

Cutler also addressed losing his composure and whether he took responsibility for his four interceptions.

“I think I had my composure and I think I had my composure the whole game,’’ Cutler said. “We got beat, we got beat by a good football team. Offensively, it starts with me, so I got to play better, and it trickles down. It started early on in that game and it never got better.’’
