The Bears agreed to terms on four-year contracts with fourth-round draft pick Evan Rodriguez and seventh-round pick Greg McCoy on Tuesday. The Bears have come to terms with three of their six draft picks. Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, a second-round pick from South Carolina, signed last week.
Rodriguez, a 6-2, 239-pound tight end, had 35 receptions for 479 yards (13.7 yards per catch) and two touchdowns last season. The Bears plan to use him as a ‘‘move’’ tight end who can block and make plays downfield as a receiver.
McCoy, a 5-10, 178-pound cornerback/kick returner from TCU, is expected to get his best shot on special teams. He was sixth in the nation in kickoff returns last season, averaging 30.6 yards with two touchdowns on 30 returns. The Bears have one of the NFL’s best kick returners in Devin Hester, but Johnny Knox’s availability for this season is in doubt after he suffered a back injury against the Seahawks last December.
The Bears are expected to sign their remaining three draft picks without issue: defensive end Shea McClellin, their first-round pick (19th overall) from Boise State; safety Brandon Hardin, their third-rounder from
Oregon State; and cornerback Isaiah Frey, their sixth-rounder from Nevada.
The Bears will hold their rookie minicamp Friday through Sunday at Halas Hall. It is not open to the public.
