Bears linebacker J.T. Thomas faces a misdemeanor charge after police in West Virginia said they caught him driving the wrong way down a one-way street and found marijuana in his car, according to the Associated Press.

“We are aware of the arrest of J.T. Thomas in Morgantown, W.V.,” the Bears said in a statement. “We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.”

Thomas did not respond to a interview request Monday afternoon.

Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston told the AP that Thomas, 23, was charged Monday morning, after an officer detected the odor of marijuana in Thomas’ vehicle.

Thomas appeared in magistrate court for an initial arraignment and was released on his own recognizance.

Thomas spent his rookie season on the Bears’ injured reserve. But he made news before the Super Bowl, when he told the Sun-Times about a special road trip he made to raise awareness for a Chicago teen with epilepsy. He then took the student to the Super Bowl in Indianapolis.
