STEELERS 28, BRONCOS 10: Steel Curtain falls on Orton

November 10, 2009

DENVER -- Ben Roethlisberger threw three touchdown passes, and Tyrone Carter returned one of Kyle Orton's three interceptions for another score to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 28-10 victory Monday against the Denver Broncos.

After Carter's 48-yard interception return got the Steelers (6-2) on the board in the second quarter, Roethlisberger (21-for-29, 233 yards) threw three scoring passes in the second half -- three-yarders to Hines Ward in the third and fourth quarters and a 25-yarder to Mike Wallace in the fourth -- to help them pull away to their fifth victory in a row.

Rashard Mendenhall also had a big game for the Steelers. Although he didn't score a touchdown, he ran 22 times for 155 yards.

Orton, meanwhile, suffered through his worst game with the Broncos (6-2). He was troubled by the Steelers' defense all game and was intercepted twice by Carter and once by Troy Polamalu. He also was sacked twice.

Carter started in place of safety Ryan Clark, who was held out for precautionary reasons after nearly dying the last time the Steelers visited Denver in 2007. He has a rare blood disorder that is aggravated by playing in high altitude.
