Turner, Falcons top Skins
Michael Turner ran for a season-high 166 yards, including touchdowns of 30 yards in the second quarter and 58 in the fourth, and Tye Hill returned an interception 62 yards for another score to power the Atlanta Falcons to a 31-17 victory Sunday against the visiting Washington Redskins.
The Redskins, who lost their fourth game in a row to fall to 2-6, played the last three-plus quarters without running back Clinton Portis, who was knocked out of the game by a helmet-to-helmet hit from Falcons safety Thomas DeCoud late in the first quarter. No penalty was called.
Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who used to play for the Falcons (5-3), lost his cool after teammate LaRon Landry was penalized for a late hit on quarterback Matt Ryan late in the second quarter. Hall, who had complained all week about how the Falcons treated him during his time in Atlanta, jumped into the middle of things before being pulled away. No punches appeared to be thrown.
After the game, Hall said Falcons strength coach Jeff Fish and others ''put their hands on me'' during the melee and said he planned to file a complaint with commissioner Roger Goodell about it.
''I'm going to get on the horn with commissioner Goodell, and we're going to figure out a way how to nip this in the bud,'' Hall said. ''They need to have some repercussions, and something needs to happen to them, too.''
Tom Brady and Randy Moss connected on two highlight-reel plays, Stephen Gostkowski kicked four field goals and the host New England Patriots (6-2) overcame the Miami Dolphins' revived Wildcat offense to earn a 27-17 victory.
Moss set up the Patriots' first touchdown -- a one-yard run by Laurence Maroney -- with a one-handed grab of a 36-yard pass at the Dolphins' 1-yard line, then scored on a 71-yard play after catching the ball about 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.
The Dolphins (3-5) scored both their touchdowns on possessions during which they used the Wildcat extensively -- after gaining only 36 yards on 21 plays out of the formation in their previous two games -- but the Patriots' quick-strike ability took back the momentum.
Brady was 25-for-37 for 332 yards and the touchdown to Moss, who caught six passes for 147 yards. It was the third consecutive game in which Brady threw for more than 300 yards.
Ricky Williams scored on a 15-yard run, and running back Ronnie Brown threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Joey Haynos out of the Wildcat for the Dolphins.
Matt Hasselbeck set a franchise record with 39 completions on his way to 329 passing yards, and the Seattle Seahawks (3-5) overcame an early 17-point deficit by intercepting rookie Matthew Stafford five times in their 32-20 victory against the visiting Detroit Lions (1-7).
Olindo Mare kicked four field goals, and Josh Wilson returned Stafford's final interception 61 yards for the clinching touchdown with 22 seconds left to help the Seahawks avoid the embarrassment of becoming the first home team to lose to the Lions since the Bears did it on Oct. 28, 2007.
Chris Johnson ran for 135 yards and two short touchdowns, and Cortland Finnegan returned one of Alex Smith's three interceptions 39 yards for another score to spark the Tennessee Titans (2-6) to a 34-27 victory against the host San Francisco 49ers (3-5). The Titans won their second consecutive game since Vince Young (12-for-19, 172 yards) replaced Kerry Collins as their starting quarterback after their bye week.
David Garrard passed for 264 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown to Mike Sims-Walker, to pace the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-4) to a 24-21 victory against the visiting Kansas City Chiefs (1-7). The Chiefs trailed 24-6 before Matt Cassel threw touchdown passes of 54 and five yards to Chris Chambers, who was claimed off waivers Tuesday from the San Diego Chargers, in the last 2:32.
