White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy finished second to the Texas Rangers’ Yu Darvish in the Final Vote for a spot on the American League All-Star team.
Darvish and Cardinals third baseman David Freese are both going to their first All-Star Game, thanks to the fan balloting, which ended at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
“We knew we had a tough fight ahead of us but I just can’t thank the White Sox, friends, family, the fans,’’ said Peavy, who has a 6-5 record and 2.96 ERA. “The support was overwhelming. It was humbling. It was incredible. We had so much fun with it.’’
