The White Sox signed former Marlins and Nationals left-handed starter Scott Olsen to a minor-league contract Wednesday. Olsen, who’s 37-49 with a 4.85 ERA in his career, had shoulder problems and was released by the Pirates last May. He didn’t pitch for Pittsburgh.
Olsen’s deal includes a big-league option for 2013 but doesn’t include an invite to big-league camp this spring, a Sox official said.
Olsen, 28, was a sixth-round pick out of Crystal Lake South High School in 2002 by the Marlins. He made 31 or more starts for the Marlins in 2006, ’07 and ’08.
