WESTERN MICHIGAN AT ILLINOIS

Time: 2:30 p.m., BTN, 560-AM.

Records: Illinois 3-0, Western Michigan 2-1.

The story line: Fired-up Illini, eyeing their first 4-0 start since 1951, look to avenge 23-17 loss to Broncos in 2008. Illinois defense, ranked 10th in country, must contain Western Michigan quarterback Alex Carder. Illinois offense must rebound from poor second half last week.

The line: Illinois by 14.

Patrick Z. McGavin’s pick: Illinois 28, Western Michigan 10.

NOTRE DAME AT PITTSBURGH

Time: 11 a.m., Ch. 7, 890-AM.

Records: ND 1-2, Pittsburgh 2-1.

The story line: The Fighting Irish try to even their record against a Pittsburgh team still smarting after blowing a 21-point lead.

The line: Notre Dame by 61/2.

Neil Hayes’ pick: Notre Dame 27, Pittsburgh 17.

CAL POLY AT NORTHERN ILLINOIS

Records: Cal Poly 1-2, NIU 1-2.

The story line: NIU ends its nonconference schedule determined to rebound from back-to-back losses to Kansas (45-42) and Wisconsin (49-7). The Huskies’ defense was

The line: NIU by 191/2.

Lacy J. Banks’ pick: NIU 35, Cal Poly 21.
