SOUTH BEND, Ind. —
Justin Gant scored 17 points, Khristian Smith 15 and Manny Arop 13 to power Indiana State to an 83-70 upset Sunday of
No. 21 Notre Dame. It was the Irish’s first home loss in November in 14 years under coach Mike Brey.
The Sycamores (2-1) led 40-30 at halftime, but Notre Dame (2-1) grabbed a 45-44 lead on a three-point play by Austin Burgett with 15:07 left. Indiana State then
responded with an 18-3 run to take control of the game.
Gant helped close out the Irish with 1:59 left. With the shot clock winding down and the Sycamores holding a 10-point lead, Gant made a three-pointer to send a good number of Notre Dame fans streaming for the exits.
Eric Atkins led the Irish with 18 points. Jerian Grant added 17 and Pat Connaughton 16.
