Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald said that quarterback Kain Colter and running back Venric Mark, both injured in the first quarter of Saturday’s loss to Wisconsin, are “day to day.”

Both players sustained ankle injuries Saturday. Colter initially injured his ankle in last Tuesday’s practice, was a partial participant Wednesday and returned to practice as a full participant the rest of the week.

Colter returned to action, playing as late as the third quarter but then was classified as “out” in the fourth quarter.

Mark left Saturday’s loss at Wisconsin in the first quarter with an ankle injury and was initially classified as “probable” to return. By the second half he had been downgraded to “out.”

Mark played sporadically in the Wildcats’ at Cal in the season opener on Aug. 31. He sat out the next three games with a lower-body injury and returned in Northwestern’s loss to Ohio State at home on Oct. 5, appearing to be 100 percent healthy.
