OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton is officially in the Big East Conference.
The Bluejays’ membership in the reconstituted Big East began at 12:01 a.m. Monday. The move ends a membership in the Missouri Valley Conference that stretched for all or part of five decades.
Creighton joins Butler and Xavier as newcomers in the Big East. The league retains DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Villanova.
The formation of the new Big East was announced on March 20 in New York. The basketball-centric conference has a 12-year television deal with Fox worth about $500 million.
