Ohio State claimed its third Big Ten tournament championship in four years with a 50-43 win over Wisconsin on Sunday at the United Center, avenging a landmark 22-point loss to the Badgers last month that spurred the Buckeyes to new heights.

“I don’t now if I’ve ever been prouder of a basketball team,” Ohio State coach Thad Matta said. “Look at this tournament and this league. We went 21 straight games and to be the last ones standing atop of it, the last college basketball game of the regular season, is incredible.”

Sam Dekker scored on a reverse layup with 7:01 remaining to give Wisconsin a 41-39 lead, but it was the Badgers’ last field goal.

Deshaun Thomas was only 6-for-19 from the field but led all scorers with 17 points. The conference-scoring leader also grabbed seven rebounds for the No. 10 Buckeyes (26-7). Aaron Craft added nine points and six rebounds.

“I’m not sure two weeks ago we would’ve responded the way we did tonight,” Craft said.

Traevon Jackson led a Wisconsin team (23-11) that shot 38.3 percent with 10 points while Dekker added eight and Ben Brust and Mike Bruesewitz had six each.

The Badgers defeated No. 3 Indiana and No. 6 Michigan to reach the title game.

“I thought we had enough to run the gauntlet but we didn’t have it in us,” Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan said.

Ohio State out-rebounded Wisconsin 39-28.
