Jamil Wilson channeled his inner aloha spirit with a colorful 19-point performance in Marquette’s 72-64 victory over USC at the Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii, on Wednesday.

Wilson went 7-for-9 off the bench, throwing up Hawaii’s famous shaka sign each time he hit a three-pointer. USC (3-2) pulled within one of the Golden Eagles (4-1) with 14 minutes left. Wilson responded by touching off a nine-point run.

Davante Gardner added 12 points for Marquette, Junior Cadougan had 11 and Chris Otule scored 10.

Marquette finished fifth in the eight-team tournament, its only loss a buzzer-beater to Butler in the opening game.

Eastern Illinois 56

Stavros Schizas and Dramell Hogan scored 17 points each as the visiting NAIA team defeated the Panthers (2-4). Sherman Blanford had 11 points and nine rebounds for Eastern Illinois, which shot 37 percent. Morris Woods also had 11 points and Josh Piper 10.

Extension for Huggins

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins, 59, has received a contract extension that includes the choice of moving into another role or continuing his coaching duties beyond the 2017-18 season. Athletic director Oliver Luck said Huggins will earn $3 million this season, including a base salary of $250,000. The contract runs through 2022-23.

Spartans’ Harris hurt

Michigan State freshman guard Gary Harris, averaging 12 points per game, has a sprained left shoulder and will be out two to three weeks.AP
