Notre Dame wide receiver DaVaris Daniels might have dodged a bullet when he appeared in court Thursday after being among 29 people cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor after police responded to an ambulance call May 13 in Vernon Hills, according to police reports.
Daniels, who saw action with the Irish’s first team during spring practice, had his case continued to Aug. 9 after agreeing to deferred prosecution. Between now and then, Daniels is expected to complete 25 hours of community service and a four-hour alcohol course.
Upon completion of those requirements, the prosecution is expected to reduce the citation to disorderly conduct.
Daniels, who played high school ball in Vernon Hills, had no comment about the situation.
It is the third alcohol-related incident for the Irish since the end of spring practice. Incumbent starting quarterback Tommy Rees and linebacker Carlo Calabrese were arrested May 3 on alcohol-related offenses in South Bend, Ind.
