Russell Westbrook has worked out with Derrick Rose in the offseason for years. He doesn’t expect this summer to be any different.
The Thunder point guard was “very confident’’ about a comeback by Rose and said it would happen sooner rather than later.
“I’ve talked to him numerous times,’’ Westbrook said Monday. “He’s a tough guy. He does a good job of coming out competing. It’s unfortunate he had to be hurt and out another year, but he’s going to come back the same D-Rose he was before.’’
Westbrook tore his lateral meniscus in the playoffs last season and missed the rest of the postseason. Rose tore his medial meniscus Nov. 22 and was ruled out for the remainder of this season.
“Just being confident,’’ Westbrook said, when asked about the key to a comeback. “You have to have confidence in yourself and health and knowing the rehab and all the work you put in has paid off.’’
MVP candidate Kevin Durant played with D.J. Augustin in college at Texas and was thrilled to see that he caught on with the Bulls and was producing.
“I’m so happy for him,’’ Durant said. “We spent so much time together when we were at Texas. We lived next door to each other, and we had a connection since the first day we stepped on campus.
“He deserves it all. He’s humble, has his priorities in order, and he’s just someone I really look up to.’’
