HOUSTON — Rockets center Dwight Howard and Bulls point guard Derrick Rose are members of the Adidas family, and while Howard hasn’t spoken to Rose since he was lost for the season, he said Wednesday that he had been thinking about him.
“It’s just an unfortunate situation for him,’’ Howard said. “He tried so hard to come back from the one injury, then he got injured again.
‘‘Injuries are not something that are easy to come back from. It’s mentally draining. If you’re not strong enough to handle being injured, it’s difficult.
“When I hurt my back, just trying to get back into it after five or six months after not being able to do anything, you’re watching guys play, and it hurts. I know how he feels.’’
Howard said Rose should not try to rush back from his latest injury.
“It just takes time,’’ Howard said. “In this age, people don’t want to hear it takes time. They want it now.
‘‘But with injuries, we have to make sure with our career that we take our time to get back right. That’s what he should do.’’
Point guard Kirk Hinrich missed his third consecutive game with back spasms.
His hope was to be back by the weekend at the latest.
D.J. Augustin started in Hinrich’s place against the Rockets.
