It was quite the Tuesday for Marquis Teague.
The 29th pick in the 2012 draft was assigned to the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League, but he was recalled, according to a team source, when an MRI showed veteran Mike James had suffered a sprained MCL on Monday against the Pelicans.
Teague will have another chance to show that he can handle the back-up point guard duties with James on the shelf for two-to-four weeks. But Teague could be sent back to Iowa when James returns.
“Marquis is doing great,’’ general manager Gar Forman said. “He’s still 20 years old, he’s still young. We like Marquis’ potential, but for his development there might be scenarios throughout the season where he gets playing time down there.’’
The 6-2 Teague has played in nine games this season, averaging 1.2 points, 0.8 assists and 8.9 minutes. He played only six seconds in the triple-overtime loss to the Pelicans on Monday. James played just under 10 minutes.
