Thibodeau fined $35,000 for comments on Game 3 officials

Tom Thibodeau was fined $35,000 on Sunday for being critical of the officiating in his comments after Game 3 of the Bulls’ playoff series with Miami.

Thibodeau, who had already talked with reporters, declined to comment on the fine through a team spokesman, who said the Bulls coach is only thinking about Game 4 tonight at the United Center.

The coach was unhappy with the officials’ decision to eject Nazr Mohammed for shoving LeBron James during the Bulls’ 104-94 loss. No discipline was announced by the NBA regarding Mohammed.

With the Bulls trailing the Heat 2-1, Game 4 shapes up as pivotal to the Bulls’ upset hopes.

Although Thibodeau described Kirk Hinrich (bruised left calf) and Luol Deng (side effects from spinal tap) as day-to-day, neither seems to have much of a chance to return Monday.

Deng said he tried to work out individually on Saturday, but wound up vomiting. When he tried to practice with the team on Sunday, he became ill during the warmup and was unable to continue.

``I tried to practice Saturday and I couldn’t,’’ Deng said. ``I started throwing up. I tried to practice with the team today, the same thing. My body is not reacting well to anything I’m doing right now.’’

Deng said he’s still having difficulty eating solid food, and has regained only a couple of the 15 pounds he’s lost due to an apparent flu bout and the spinal tap. He hasn’t played since Game 5 of the Brooklyn series.

Hinrich also was limited on Sunday. ``He did some shooting and some bike. That was about it,’’ Thibs said after the Bulls’ light workout.
