The Bulls wasted little time grabbing headlines during their media day at the Berto Center on Monday.

General manager Gar Forman announced the team signed coach Tom Thibodeau to a four-year extension to begin the day. As a result, the Bulls also eliminated a potential distraction for the upcoming season.

Thibodeau has proven to be one of the best coaches in the NBA, previously being named the 2011 Coach of the Year. The Bulls had already picked up his option for the 2012-13 season. Thibodeau is now signed through the 2016-17 season.

“I think he’s the best coach in the NBA,” Forman said.

The Bulls have led the league in regular-season wins each of the past two seasons under Thibodeau. Last year that included winning often despite Derrick Rose’s injury status.

“I’d like to be here forever,” Thibodeau said.

“I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead. My expectations are always the same.”
