KAUNAS, Lithuania — Basketball Hall-of-Famer Arvydas Sabonis is in stable condition after suffering a heart attack.

Doctors in Sabonis’ hometown of Kaunas, Lithuania, said Wednesday that the former NBA player is in intensive care, but the heart attack is not life-threatening.

The 46-year-old Sabonis was taken to a hospital Tuesday night after going into cardiac arrest while playing basketball.

Sabonis helped the Soviet Union win gold at the 1988 Olympics, beating the United States in the semifinals. The center played seven seasons for the Portland Trail Blazers between 1995-2003.

He was recently inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
