The Bulls and Blackhawks grabbed most of the attention last night in Chicago, so you might have missed the exciting finish to the White Sox 3-2 victory over the Yankees.
Brent Lillibridge, who entered the game in right field after pinch-running for Carlos Quentin, went to the wall in the ninth inning to snag Alex Rodriguez’s drive with the tying and go-ahead runs on base for the second out. He made an even better catch on Robinson Cano to end the game, coming in and diving on a low, hooking liner.
‘‘I got a good read on it,’’ Lillibridge said of his catch on Cano’s ball. ‘‘But the biggest thing in my head was if there was a close play I have a chance for, I’m going for it. We have to have that attitude. It’s been rough for us, so I said all or nothing. I could have been the goat. In this instance, I was able to win the game.’’
The beneficiary was Sergio Santos, who recorded his second save in two games.
‘‘I finally found my closer — Lillibridge,’’ Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. ‘‘All Chicago fans can relax now because I found him.’’
