DENVER — The White Sox have signed right-hander Tommy Hanson to a minor-league contract.

Hanson, 27, who was released by the Texas Rangers at the end of spring training, will report to extended spring training before he joins the Sox’ AAA Charlotte club.

Once considered a rising young talent in the Atlanta Braves’ rotation, Hanson encountered shoulder problems and has also dealt with a concussion he sustained in an auto accident during spring training 2012 with the Braves.

He was 49-35 with a 3.80 ERA in five major-league seasons with the Braves from 2009-12 and the Angels last season. He won 10 or more games in each of his four seasons with the Braves. With the Angels, he was 4-3 with a 5.42 ERA.

The Sox play the Colorado Rockies in an interleague game at Coors Field on Monday night (7:40 p.m., CSN). Right-hander Felipe Paulino starts for the Sox against right-hander Jordan Lyles.
