PHOENIX — Chris Sale breezed into the fifth inning with two-hit ball shortly after being chosen the White Sox’s opening-day starter, and Chicago beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3 Monday.

Sale struck out three in 4 1-3 innings, allowing only a two-out single to Khris Davis in the first and a two-out single to Jean Segura in the third. The two-time All-Star allowed six earned runs in 2 2-3 innings in his previous Cactus League start against San Diego, but he was much sharper this time.

The White Sox took a 4-3 lead in the ninth when Jared Mitchell scored on a fielder’s choice by Jeff Keppinger. Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke challenged umpire Scott Barry’s call at home plate but it was upheld by video replay. Andy Wilkins followed with a two-run single.

Roenicke has now challenged five calls this spring with all five being upheld by the umpires.

Jordan Danks snapped a scoreless tie with a two-run homer off Brewers reliever Johnny Hellweg in the seventh.
