GLENDALE, Ariz. -- White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana left Saturday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first inning with a left shin contusion after being struck by a batted ball.
The Sox announced that Quintana is day to day.
Gerardo Perra’s line drive hit Quintana and caromed to to the third base side. Quintana limped around the pitcher’s mound area and was looked at by Sox trainers and manager Robin Ventura before he walked off under his own power. Walking somewhat gingerly, Quintana walked alongside the right field line with training staff to the training room.
Quintana is considered the Sox’ No. 2 starter behind Chris Sale. He faced two batters Saturday and allowed two singles.
He was replaced by right-hander Andre Rienzo.
