Jose Quintana’s quest to be a 200-inning pitcher remained on course, and his American League record for no-decisions stayed at 17. Better yet for the tough-luck left-hander, he was rewarded with his eighth victory when the White Sox defeated the Minnesota Twins 4-3 on Tuesday at U.S. Cellular Field.
Quintana (8-6, 3.49 ERA) pitched six innings and left with a 4-1 lead. He leads the Sox with 31 starts and, with 185 2/3 innings, has a chance to reach 200 with two starts left. ‘‘Guys that do 200 innings, those are the guys,’’ manager
Robin Ventura said. ‘‘I’d like to give him a chance because he’s earned it.’’
Santiago skipped over
With Hector Santiago skipped in the six-man rotation, Andre Rienzo , Chris Sale and Erik Johnson will start Friday through Sunday against the Tigers in Detroit, and Quintana will face the Toronto Blue Jays in a makeup game Monday at home. ‘‘The last few starts, he just looks tired,’’ Ventura said of Santiago. ‘‘Just give him a rest and see what happens next time out.’’
Playing regularly has raised outfielder Jordan Danks’ stock. Danks was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts but is hitting .316 in his last 29 games. He also made a diving catch near the right-field line.
‘‘The ball comes off his bat better now than it did when he first came up last year,’’ Ventura said. Scouts are paying attention to Danks, with one calling him a ‘‘sleeper’’ who shouldn’t be labeled as a fourth outfielder just yet. ‘‘You hate to put a ceiling on a guy,’’ Ventura said.
Dayan Viciedo , who batted third for the first time this season, had three singles and two RBI, raising his average with runners in scoring position and two outs to .356.
† The Sox were charged with three errors ( Paul Konerko , Gordon Beckham , Marcus Semien ), but a postgame scoring change took one away from Konerko. The Sox have made 115 errors.
† Avisail Garcia is expected back Wednesday after missing three games for the birth of his first child.
