Rangers said to be checking out De Aza, Rios

White Sox center fielder Alejandro De Aza’s name was the latest in the rumor mill with a report the Texas Rangers have interest. With concerns that right fielder Nelson Cruz might face a similar suspension to Ryan Braun’s, the Rangers also are looking at Alex Rios.

De Aza, who won’t be a free agent until 2016, was hitting .275 with 12 home runs, 20 doubles and 44 RBI through Tuesday — good power numbers for a leadoff man. He was picked off first in the third inning Tuesday for the fourth time and has made eight additional outs on the bases not counting being caught stealing, a trend that has become an annoyance.

“Anytime you get something going early, and it gets snuffed out, that’s frustrating stuff,” manager Robin Ventura said after the game. “There are a lot of different things that frustrate you, and that’s part of it. It’s stuff that needs to be cleaned up.”

De Aza said Wednesday that he thought he was safe. He was 11-for-15 in stolen bases and said he won’t change his style.

“No, no,’’ he said, ‘‘because I don’t want to cut down on my aggressiveness. I don’t want to be too short to the base. I want to take aggressive leads. I just need to be more careful.’’

Crain’s business

Whether Jesse Crain (right shoulder strain) throws off a mound Thursday depends on how his shoulder feels. He threw off a mound Tuesday and is still working through mild soreness.

The non-waiver trade deadline is next Wednesday.

“It’s in the back of my mind, but I’m more focused on being healthy and being able to pitch,’’ Crain said. “I’m not going anywhere if I can’t pitch, so that’s what I’m focusing on.’’

Beckham update

Gordon Beckham tested his left wrist by swinging a bat and will see how it reacts Thursday.

“I was kind of left on the fence of whether it was good or bad,’’ Beckham said. “It was more dull soreness than it was pain, so I think that was a good thing.’’

A decision on whether Beckham will go on the disabled list is coming soon.
