If third baseman Ian Stewart wanted his release from the Cubs to get a chance to play somewhere else this season, he might have eliminated all hope of that with a late night of Tweeting about the organization that raised the ire of the front office.

Stewart, who makes a guaranteed $2 million from the Cubs this season unless he quits and forfeits the prorated difference, Tweeted with followers late Monday night and early Tuesday – writing the Cubs “are going to let me Rott [sic] in AAA” and that manager Dale Sveum “doesn’t like me.”

The Cubs, who buried Stewart at AAA Iowa after a 4-for-44 injury rehab assignment in April, were considering a possible fine and/or suspension of Stewart Tuesday.

During a radio interview Tuesday, general manager Jed Hoyer suggested “consequences” were coming.

The frustration with the organization began showing in Monday night’s tweets after Stewart responded to a fan wanting to know when he would return to Chicago, tweeting, “probably never.”

After going back and forth with fans some more, he responded to one by tweeting: “I said that because the Cubs are done with me. …there [sic] going to let me Rott in AAA all season and then non tender me after.”
