The White Sox and Cubs game has been postponed because of rain. The game was stopped in the bottom of the third inning with one out and the Cubs leading 2-0. No makeup date has been given.

“You obviously don’t want to start, get rained out and have him just wasted for the night,’’ Sox manager Robin Ventura said of Sale before the game. “It’s just one of those where if he starts and it’s a complete game, he can pitch and get his normal innings in.”

The Cubs scored both runs on Wellington Castillo’s two-run homer against Chris Sale. Wellington’s blast, his second homer of the season, followed a double by Scott Hairston down the left-field line.

Edwin Jackson retired the first six Sox before Conor Gillaspie singled leading off the third. After second baseman Tyler Greene struck out, the rain intensified and the tarp was brought out to cover the field with Tyler Flowers due up.

Sale, pitching for the first time since missing a start due to shoulder tendinitis, looked strong from the outset, touching 95-mph with his fastball during an eight-pitch first inning. If the delay drags on, it’s possible Sale -- and possibly Jackson -- won’t return. Hector Santiago would be a possibility in long relief for the Sox. Santiago was recently moved from the starting rotation to the bullpen, after John Danks’ return.
