The White Sox agreed to terms with free-agent reliever Matt Lindstrom on a one-year contract with a team option for a second year. The Sox haven’t
announced the deal, which is pending a physical.

Lindstrom, who will turn 33 next month, pitched a combined 47 innings in relief last season for the Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks, posting a 2.68 ERA with 40 strikeouts and 14 walks. After opening the season with 13 scoreless appearances, he missed six weeks with a strained middle finger on his pitching hand.

Lindstrom’s fastball was clocked at 102 mph in a game for the Florida Marlins in 2007, but it now sits in the mid-90s. He had 15 saves for the Marlins in 2009 and 23 for the Houston Astros in 2010. His career ERA is 3.64.

Lindstrom fills the void left by the departure of right-hander Brett Myers. The Sox’ bullpen appears to be fairly set, with right-handers Jesse Crain, Nate Jones and Lindstrom and left-handers Matt Thornton and Donnie Veal getting the ball to closer Addison Reed.
