Kevin Dirks of Tinley Park slayed the the Giant Slugger.

Dirks devoured the two-foot long Vienna beef hot dog, smothered in grilled onions, nacho cheese, chili and jalapenos and served on a 22-inch potato bun, in record time before the White Sox game against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.

Former Sox slugger

Ron Kittle was among the competitors who weren’t as fast.

But Dirks was in a class by himself, crushing the record of 19 minutes – a time set at Rangers Ballpark during a duel between media outlets – in less than nine minutes.

No small feat on a 100-degree day that gave new meaning to “hot” dog.

Fans who want a taste of the big dog can find The Giant Slugger near sections 109 and 538. Eating at your own pace is highly recommended.
