The White Sox starting rotation suffered another loss on Friday. Right-hander Philip Humber was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 17) with a right elbow flexor strain. Right-handed reliever Brian Bruney’s contract was purchased from AAA Charlotte.
Sox also returned Kosuke Fukudome from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Charlotte, removed him from the DL and designated him for assignment.
Bruney, 30, is 1-3 with a 1.85 ERA with 11 saves and 36 strikeouts in 23 games. He pitched five innings in his last outing, allowing one run.
Humber 3-4 with a 6.01 ERA in 12 starts this season. Left-hander John Danks, the team’s Opening Day starter, has been on the DL since May 20.
Humber was scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Brewers. Dylan Axelrod, brought up from AAA on Tuesday, could get the start in Humber’s place.
