SOX 13,
MARINERS 8
For the record
The Sox (6-11) got solid outings from several pitchers while clubbing Felix Hernandez for eight runs and 10 hits. Sixteen hits raised the Sox’ average to .263.
Bullpen jobs fair
Three relievers auditioning for jobs — left-hander Eric Stults (2.00 ERA) and right-handers Brian Bruney (1.13) and Nate Jones (2.84) — are giving GM Ken Williams and manager Robin Ventura choices to make when the final decisions are due in two weeks. Bruney pitched two scoreless innings, Jones one and Stults three after he allowed two runs in the first. “Stults and Bruney, you keep noticing them over and over again when they have outings like that,’’ Ventura said.
Lefties galore
With Matt Thornton, Will Ohman and Hector Santiago in the bullpen barring a trade or surprise, taking Stults, 32, would put four left-handers in the pen. Ventura said that hasn’t been ruled out.
On deck
