WHITE SOX 7, CUBS 5
For the record
The Sox (5-10) won their second in a row for the first time at chilly HoHoKam Park in Mesa. They scored five runs in the sixth inning and two in the 10th. Jordan Danks’ long home run to right broke a 5-5 tie.
Dan the HR man
Former Tampa Bay Rays ninth-inning drama king Dan Johnson hit his second home run of the spring, Tyler Flowers doubled in a run and Gordon Beckham singled in a run, all against Johnson’s ex-Rays teammate Andy Sonnanstine, in a five-run sixth. Dallas McPherson and Tyler Flowers had two hits each, and Beckham had two RBI.
Bullpen watch
Dylan Axelrod, battling for one of three open spots, threw three perfect innings with three strikeouts. Axelrod had allowed six runs and 11 hits in seven innings before Sunday. Zach Stewart (three innings, two runs) is in the same mix. “Both pitched impressively today,’’ manager Robin Ventura said. “They have been getting stronger and better each time they go out.’’ Left-hander Will Ohman gave up a run for the first time in five outings.
