INDIANS 12,
SOX 3
Position watch
Middle relief seems to be a problem with Zach Stewart and Dylan Axelrod getting looks for what could be three openings. But neither is exactly stepping up to take advantage. Axelrod has allowed six runs in three appearances, and Stewart has allowed three in his three outings.
B-game matters
Right-hander Philip Humber got the start against the Mariners in a B game Thursday morning and can be thankful it was only a B game. He pitched three innings and allowed three runs and five hits, including two home runs. Humber is penciled in as the fifth starter.
Early leaders
Very few Sox have been hotter than utility man Brent Lillibridge. He’s hitting .421 with three doubles, three RBI and three runs, but third baseman Brent Morel was at least putting his name in the argument. After going 1-for-4, Morel was hitting .400 with four runs, a double and an RBI.
On deck
Sox at Arizona (Scottsdale), 3:10 p.m., John Danks (0-2, 7.20 ERA).
