MESA, Ariz. — Nearly 200 pages of documents have been released by the city of Mesa showing how the city will develop and govern a new spring training complex for the Chicago Cubs.
The Arizona Republic reports three agreements were hammered out after Mesa voters gave permission nearly a year ago for the city to build a stadium and related facilities on what is now the Riverview Golf Course.
The documents include the development agreement and a facilities-use agreement governing construction and maintenance of the baseball complex. Mesa and the Cubs reached an agreement in 2010 that kept the National League team from bolting to Florida or another Phoenix-area city.
Under the agreements, Mesa retains ownership of all the land and facilities within the complex.
