LOS ANGELES — Former Cubs outfielder Milton Bradley was arrested by Los Angeles police after allegedly swinging a bat at his wife — and missing.

Bradley, 33, was booked on suspicion of felony assault Tuesday. The Los Angeles Times reported that police were dispatched to Bradley’s San Fernando Valley residence on a domestic violence call.

Officers reported that the incident began as a verbal argument that escalated when Bradley took a baseball bat and began swinging at his wife, who ran from the home, the Times reported.

Bradley then fled the residence and was later tracked down in his car by officers. Bradley was released after posting $30,000 bail and is due in court on Oct. 18.

Bradley, who was suspended by the Cubs at the end of the 2009 season after disparaging the team in a newspaper interview, had a tumultuous one season in Chicago, with his dugout tirades often angering manager Lou Piniella. He was traded to the Seattle Mariners after that season.

The outfielder who was released by the Mariners on May 16, has a history of anger-management issues on and off the field.

He was arrested Jan. 18 for suspicion of making threats to his wife after a previous incident at their home. The Los Angeles city attorney’s office announced the next month that it would not file charges, but brought Bradley in for a hearing to discuss “the most appropriate course of action” to resolve that case, according to the Times.

The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Bradley to the Oakland Athletics in 2005 after he threw a water bottle at fans and had a run-in with a Los Angeles Times sportswriter.

In November 2004, he was arrested in Ohio after allegedly confronting a police officer during a traffic stop.
