At the plate: A single to each gap in three trips to the plate boosted Marlon Byrd’s hot spring to .472. Geovany Soto, Alfonso Soriano and Reed Johnson homered.
On the mound: Opening Day starter Ryan Dempster (2.00 ERA this spring) pitched six strong innings to hand a lead to the bullpen, but Fernando Perez’s error in left helped along a three-run A’s ninth. Conor Jackson drove home the game-winner with a one-out shot to deep left.
