At the plate: Marlon Byrd continued to cement his position in the No. 3 spot by not only going 2-for-2 to raise his Cactus League average to .650, but also connecting on his first homer. He was the only Cub to have a multihit game against the Royals.

On the mound: Matt Garza dropped to 0-2, allowing six runs and four hits, but more bothersome, walking four. The one bright spot with Cubs pitching was closer Carlos Marmol throwing a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. Marmol hasn’t allowed a run in four appearances.
