Cubs recap: Cubs 14, Angels 13
By Joe Cowley jcowley@suntimes.com
At the plate: Bryan LaHair played hero for the Cubs in the bottom of the ninth inning, winning the game with a walk-off single to right. But it was a seven-run sixth that got the North Siders back into the game after they had fallen into a 12-2 hole. Former first-round pick Josh Vitters went 2-for-3 with two runs.
On the mound: It wasn’t exactly a pitching clinic for the Cubs, with starter Carlos Silva allowing eight runs and 10 hits in 21/3 innings and lefty James Russell offering up four runs (three earned) in three innings. Jeff Samardzija had a chance to close out the game, but he gave up a solo homer to Brandon Wood.
