Cubs recap: Cubs 5, Dodgers 3 (11); Reds 10, Cubs 0

At the plate: Another pair of doubles in a three-hit game has Marlon Byrd off to a 9-for-15 (.600) start — with four doubles in the last two games. Carlos Pena, who’s coming off a .196 season, is only 1-for-14 with five strikeouts after a hitless day against the Reds. Infield prospect D.J. LeMahieu, who was added to the split-squad roster from the minor-league camp for the day, beat the Dodgers with a line-drive, two-run homer to left with nobody out in the bottom of the 11th.

On the mound: Ryan Dempster looked in Opening Day form, allowing only one run (thanks to a season’s worth of triples — one — from former Cub Aaron Miles). And closer Carlos Marmol looked in midseason form, striking out three Dodgers — with a walk thrown in — during his inning.
